A Family History
The late John H. Blair moved to Camdenton, Missouri in 1930 to supervise the construction of a highway system that would run through the newly created Lake of the Ozarks. After deciding to make Camdenton their home, the Blairs purchased land and built the Blair Hotel and Cafe in Camdenton's square, where he constructed all of the establishment’s cedar tables and chairs using only hand tools. Soon after, he began turning out small cedar novelties to sell in his cafe, and before he knew it, his hobby would become a full- grown factory and the heartbeat of the new community.
Following World War 2, Mr. Blair sold the hotel to concentrate on his new, successful business venture of making salt and pepper shakers and other cedar novelties. Due to the scarcity of gasoline during the war, a mail order business was introduced along with the slogan, "From the log to you". The name Blair Cedar would become well-known in the surrounding areas.
